Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison for buying abusive teenage girls for Jeffrey Epstein in a New York sex-trafficking case.
Epstein, a convicted sex offender and financier whose elite aides once included Prince Andrew and Bill Clinton
He killed himself in a federal prison in New York City just a month after his arrest
Maxwell's lawyers had insisted a lenience in the sentence, saying he should get "well below" the 20 years
Prosecutors pushed for sentences of 30 to 55 years in prison.
Former British socialite Maxwell was convicted on December 29 of five of the six charges he faced.
After 40 hours of deliberation lasting six days, the jury delivered its verdict.
In sex trafficking, Maxwell was convicted of conspiracy to entice persons under the age of 17 to travel in interstate commerce
